Eyelid Surgery
At Mommy Makeover Tijuana, blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a surgical rejuvenating procedure that may be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids. An upper blepharoplasty may include excision of drooping eyelid skin, repair of the muscle that opens the eyes, and removal of excess fat.
A lower blepharoplasty corrects under-eye bags with repositioning and possible removal of redundant fat and skin. It also treats sagging lower lids that may reveal excess white space beneath your iris (the colored circular portion of your eyes surrounding your black pupil).
Candidates for blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery:
- Droopy eyelids due to aging or muscle dehiscence that make you appear tired
- Droopy eyelids that obstruct your visual field
- You are unsatisfied with your eyelid shape
- Your eyelids appear puffy and/or you have prominent bags under your eyes
Elements to Consider
Eyelid surgery is a highly customizable procedure, making it appropriate for a wide array of patients. It can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids, or both, and can treat many common aesthetic concerns related to this area of the face.
During your consultation with Dr. Carlos Illich Navarro, you will discuss your medical history as well as your lifestyle and aesthetic goals. Dr. Navarro takes photographs of your face to help him further plan your surgery, and continues to take photographs throughout your entire surgical process.
Also during your consultation, Dr. Navarro takes careful measurements and photographs and performs a thorough physical examination to determine the source of your primary complaints.
The Blepharoplasty Procedure
Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure, and Dr. Carlos Illich Navarro typically performs the surgery while you are under local anesthesia with sedation.
Whether your surgery is focused on your upper or lower lids, Dr. Navarro makes incisions that follow the natural creases of your lids. These incisions generate very discreet scars.
Once he has made these incisions, Dr. Navarro removes and repositions tissue according to your desired outcome. Fat transfer or brow lift may supplement blepharoplasty for an improved result. He will give you a much more specific idea of the details of your surgery as you plan your procedure.
Before closing your incisions, Dr. Navarro takes careful measurements of your eyelids and evaluates them for symmetry.
Recovery After Eyelid Surgery
After blepharoplasty, it’s imperative to give your body the time it needs to heal. Although some discomfort is normal, it’s easily controllable with prescribed medication.
Dr. Carlos Illich Navarro removes your sutures after about a week, at which point most patients feel comfortable returning to work and other social activities.
- Most patients experience minimal pain after surgery
- Ice compress for 72 hrs immediately after surgery, followed by warm compress
- If non-dissolvable sutures are used, they will be removed 5-7 days after surgery
- Bruising usually resolves at about 2 weeks
- You may return to work (desk job) after 1 week
- Conceal the degree of swelling by wearing thick framed glasses
- You may drive 1-2 weeks after surgery
- You may gradually resume physical activity 2-4 weeks after surgery
